“Roskosmos”  is to present on May 22 a project of a system for covering the planet with high-speed Internet access. Thus, the Russian state company is going to compete with the OneWeb Satellites project, which sells Airbus and OneWeb, the European O3b system under the supervision of SES Corporation and American Starlink, owned by SpaceX.

“The project of creating a national system for covering the Earth’s territory with high-speed Internet access and providing a continuous communication channel for unmanned vehicles, the Internet of things and secure data transmission will be presented,” RIA Novosti quoted the agency’s announcement of the corporation.

The source of the resource in the rocket and space industry explained that it was a project of a global multifunctional information satellite system (GMISS). The media wrote that the implementation of the project until 2020 will require 299 billion rubles. To finance it, a consortium with the participation of Roskosmos, Vnesheconombank and other organizations should be established by June. Experimental samples of system components should be created by the end of 2020.

Earlier this week, President Vladimir Putin issued a decree on the goals and objectives of the country’s development for the next six years, in which he instructed the government to create in Russia “a stable and secure ICT infrastructure for the high-speed transmission, processing and storage of large amounts of data available to all organizations and households “by 2024.
